Position Summary
Pacific Rim Tonewoods is seeking an experienced Lead Millwright to provide technical leadership for our maintenance department and help drive equipment reliability, safety, and continuous improvement throughout our operation.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. The successful candidate will lead maintenance activities, support production teams, coordinate outside contractors, and help develop systems that improve uptime, reliability, and workplace safety.

Planned Leadership Transition
Pacific Rim Tonewoods is planning for the future.
Our current Lead Millwright is expected to remain with the company through 2027 and into 2028. This position is being filled in advance to allow for a planned transition of responsibilities and knowledge.
The successful candidate will work alongside our current Lead Millwright, gaining firsthand knowledge of our equipment, systems, maintenance practices, and operation. This transition period is intended to provide a strong foundation for long-term success and ensure a smooth transfer of technical knowledge and leadership responsibilities.
The Lead Millwright will join an established maintenance team that includes two additional millwrights and two engineers in a collaborative manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily maintenance activities throughout the facility
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Diagnose equipment failures and determine root causes
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs
- Support production teams by minimizing downtime and improving equipment reliability
- Coordinate equipment installations, upgrades, and improvement projects
- Work with equipment manufacturers and technical support personnel when required
- Maintain maintenance records, spare parts inventories, and equipment documentation
- Lead and mentor maintenance personnel
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and service providers
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Assist with maintenance planning, budgeting, and capital projects
- Support saw maintenance activities, including band inspection, troubleshooting, and sharpening
Equipment & Systems
The successful candidate will work with a wide variety of equipment and technologies, including:
- Industrial bandsaws and saw filing equipment
- Sawmill and wood processing equipment
- Kilns and drying systems
- Material handling systems and conveyors
- Three industrial dust collection systems
- Air compressors and pneumatic systems
- Hydraulic systems
- CNC equipment
- Forklifts and mobile equipment
- Three-phase electrical systems
- Variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, sensors, and controls
Qualifications
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong understanding of three-phase electrical systems and industrial controls
- Ability to troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical equipment failures
- Experience reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals
- Working knowledge of PLC-based equipment and automated manufacturing systems preferred
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, drives, and power transmission systems
- Basic welding and fabrication knowledge
- Experience in wood products manufacturing, sawmills, or industrial manufacturing environments preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive working relationships across departments
