Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality clinical care, patient education, and nursing support within our specialty practice. This position requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Experience in ENT, surgical specialties, urgent care, operating room, or other outpatient clinical settings is highly valued.
This position will provide clinical support primarily in our Anchorage clinic and Wasilla clinic as coverage is needed. In-clinic training is provided for our systems, workflows, and specialty-specific clinical duties.
Responsibilities
- Room patients, obtain and/or confirm patient history, review medications, allergies, and reason for seeking care.
- Perform nursing assessments and communicate pertinent findings to physicians and physician assistants.
- Inform providers when patients are ready to be seen and communicate any obstacles affecting clinic flow.
- Upload, process, and track consents, orders, referrals, and imaging.
- Prepare charts in our EMR system, AdvancedMD, prior to patient visits.
- Verify medication lists, allergies, and patient health information prior to provider evaluation.
- Triage patient phone calls and respond appropriately within scope of practice.
- Process medication refill requests according to clinic protocols and provider direction.
- Assist with ordering and coordinating necessary studies, including audiograms, CT scans, imaging, laboratory testing, and specialty referrals.
- Follow up on studies, pathology reports, and referrals to ensure completion and continuity of care.
- Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, postoperative care, and treatment plans.
- Set up exam rooms appropriately for visits and procedures.
- Assist providers during office procedures as needed.
- Maintain and clean exam rooms and clinical equipment according to infection control standards.
- Sterilize instruments and operate autoclave equipment according to established protocols.
- Properly handle medical waste, biohazard materials, and sharps.
- Prepare and send specimens to pathology while ensuring accurate documentation and completion of required forms.
- Perform postoperative and post-procedure follow-up calls to assess patient recovery and address concerns.
- Prepare new patient, cosmetic, preoperative, postoperative, and follow-up visit documentation.
- Collaborate with front office staff to ensure referral notes, imaging, studies, and other required records are available prior to appointments.
- Process telephone messages and coordinate patient care needs.
- Provide detailed documentation of all patient interactions and follow-up plans within 12 hours of interaction.
- Complete chart preparation and clinical documentation per clinic procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with clinic policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Current Alaska Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
- Previous outpatient clinic, specialty practice, ENT, surgical, urgent care, or related nursing experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) systems preferred.
- Familiarity with sterile technique and infection prevention practices.
- Excellent assessment, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
Education & Certifications
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program.
- Current Alaska LPN License required.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required upon hire.
