Climate Controlled Shop
We are seeking an experienced Shop Manager to lead operations in a custom architectural and ornamental metal fabrication shop. This role is responsible for overseeing a team of skilled craftsmen, ensuring productivity, quality, and organization across the shop floor.
This is a hands-on leadership role — not an office-only position and not an authoritarian environment. You’ll be working alongside a tenured, highly skilled team (average tenure ~17 years), so success in this role depends on leadership, communication, planning, and respect for craftsmanship.
If you lead by example, stay organized, and know how to earn buy-in from experienced tradespeople, this is a long-term opportunity with a stable, high-quality operation.
- Supervise and lead a team of 10+ fabricators and trade employees
- Assign daily tasks, manage workflow, and ensure production goals are met
- Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management when needed
- Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented culture
- Support hiring, onboarding, and employee development
- Coordinate production schedules and priorities with leadership
- Ensure jobs are executed efficiently, on time, and to specification
- Maintain organization across the shop floor — materials, workflow, and processes
- Act as the key point of communication between the shop and upper management
- Oversee proper use, maintenance, and accountability of all tools and equipment
- Ensure equipment is safe, operational, and properly maintained
- Enforce safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized shop environment
- Clearly communicate expectations, updates, and priorities to the team
- Maintain production logs, reports, and documentation
- Address issues, conflicts, or production challenges proactively and professionally
- 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial environments
- Experience supervising 10+ employees
- Strong communication skills — able to lead experienced tradespeople effectively
- Hands-on knowledge of MIG & TIG welding across multiple materials
- Experience with machining processes (drilling, milling, tapping, etc.)
- Knowledge of finishing processes (painting, blasting, sanding, powder coating)
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Solid computer skills (production tracking, reporting, etc.)
- Consistent work history and professional references required
- Valid driver’s license and clean background
- A leader, not a dictator — someone who earns respect, not demands it
- Someone who is present on the floor, engaged with the team
- Highly organized with strong follow-through
- Able to balance productivity with quality craftsmanship
