The Edison Arts Foundation is seeking a passionate and energetic After School Cooking Instructor to inspire young learners through hands-on culinary experiences. You do not have to be a professional chef, we welcome all culinary professionals, home-cooks, educators, or anyone with strong cooking skills with experience working with youth. Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver dynamic after-school cooking lessons tailored to various age groups and skill levels
- Develop creative curricula that incorporate fundamental culinary techniques, nutrition education, and safety protocols
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
- Demonstrate proper use of kitchen tools, appliances, and ingredients while emphasizing safety standards
- Foster teamwork and encourage students to collaborate on cooking projects, promoting social skills and confidence
- Adapt lessons for children with special needs or varying learning styles to ensure inclusive participation
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cooking area before, during, and after classes
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support their culinary development
Qualifications
- Proven experience working with children in educational or extracurricular settings, especially in culinary arts or related fields
- Knowledge of classroom management techniques to maintain an engaging and disciplined environment
- Familiarity with food safety standards, culinary techniques, and kitchen equipment operation
- Ability to plan engaging lessons that incorporate creativity, nutrition education, and practical skills
- Excellent communication skills to effectively work with children, parents, and team members
- Background in early childhood education or preschool experience is highly desirable
- Skills in behavior management, childhood development principles, and special education accommodations are advantageous
