Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Instructor (Crew Leader) to lead the Print + Art Crew within our Adult Day vocational program. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for teaching others, and have some art knowledge and experience. This role offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and engage adults with developmental disabilities through innovative art projects, printmaking, and other creative activities. The instructor will foster a supportive environment that promotes artistic expression, personal growth, and continuous engagement.
Responsibilities
- Manage a learning space effectively to ensure safety, inclusivity, and positive conduct among the crew.
- Teach the company's curriculum and lesson plans that align with progressing a person on the path to independent employment.
- Provide individualized support and adapt instruction to meet the unique needs of each crew member.
- Promote a welcoming atmosphere that encourages social interaction, skill development, and personal achievement through vocational training and education.
- Regularly participate in driving duties as part of the company's Non-Medical Transportation services using a company vehicle.
Experience and Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED (proof of graduation is required).
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate verbally in English with competence and clarity. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are vital for success in this role. Comfort with technology, teaching, leading, and speaking in front of groups is essential.
- Must pass a criminal BCI/FBI background check and not be listed on any abuser registries that would restrict employment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (zero at-fault accidents; 2 points or fewer).
- Proven background in teaching art or applicable creative disciplines.
- One year of more of experience working with adult learners who have developmental disabilities or learning barriers in educational or community settings.
- Demonstrated classroom management abilities.
- Ability to foster a positive learning environment through effective communication and engagement techniques related to vocational instruction.
- Must be patient, kind, compassionate, a team player, and maintain a positive attitude!
- Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and show consistent dedication, integrity, and responsibility in all professional responsibilities.
- Must be task-oriented, punctual, and demonstrate initiative, organization, flexibility, adaptability, and a drive to produce high quality work.
- Must effectively manage time, ensure the accurate completion of tasks, and maintain desired levels of engagement, quality assurance, and service delivery.
Compensation and Benefits
- This is a full-time position requiring at least 40 hours per week. It is classified as hourly, non-exempt, and eligible for overtime.
- Starting compensation ranges from $17 to $19 per hour, with final offers based on experience and education.
- Employees become eligible for benefits after 90 days.
- A variety of benefits are available, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off (PTO), Personal Time, and some paid holidays.
- The company pays 100% of coverage for dental and vision, and provides a $15,000 life insurance policy.
Working Conditions
- Hours of work: The hours are Monday - Friday, and typically fall between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. A final schedule will be reviewed with employment offers. The hours may extend beyond this timeframe due to the length of non-medical transportation routes. We are closed in the evenings, on weekends, and on major holidays.
- Overtime expectations: Overtime might be necessary due to non-medical transportation routes and various influencing factors, including weather conditions and traffic patterns.
- Work environment: The workplace combines both office and warehouse areas. Tasks may also be performed outside the facility in various community settings.
- Travel requirement: Periodic travel within Columbus, Ohio, and the surrounding areas is required using company-provided vehicles.
- Physical abilities: Candidates must be capable of operating larger vehicles, such as passenger vans and/or wheelchair-accessible vehicles (or be open to learning how), while also meeting the physical requirements of driving. Candidates must also successfully pass and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications, including passing skills assessments.
