Defense Attorney Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analyze a case to determine a probable outcome while devising an effective strategy to defend your clients in court.
- Interpret laws for clients and help them to understand their legal options.
- Aim to resolve cases as quickly and favorably as possible.
- Represent clients at arraignments, hearings, and court trials.
- Present evidence to a judge and/or jury should the case go to trial.
- Prepare and draft legal documents, including legal briefs and appeals.
- Negotiate plea deals, punishments, and settlements.
- Undergo ongoing training to stay updated about changes and new developments in the legal field.
- Conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
Day-to-Day Duties
1. Communicate effectively with clients to determine their legal needs and provide advice.
2. Be available to respond to clients' questions and concerns.
3. Explain legal options to clients, as well as possible outcomes.
4. Develop strategies to resolve cases as favorably as possible for clients.
5. Develop arguments and represent clients in criminal hearings and legal proceedings.
6. Stay informed about current legislation, especially concerning criminal law matters.
7. Find ethical solutions to legal matters.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Utah state bar admission
Defense Attorney Required Skills
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2. Strong research and public speaking skills.
3. Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
4. Ability to work autonomously or with a team of attorneys to develop case strategies.
5. Adaptable, with a strong attention to detail.
6. Spanish speaking is not required but is a plus.
Compensation Is Dependent Upon Experience. Full And Part Time Positions Available.

Pay: $49,401.84 - $169,684.91 per year
