CNC Lathe Set-Up Job Description
Job Overview

Assess contract requirements and develop manufacturing methods and documented manufacturing processes which will meet customer requirements in a cost-effective and competitive fashion.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision parts according to specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Reads travelers, set-up sheets, blueprints, specifications, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, and operating requirements;
- Loads program for repeat jobs;
- Verifies current revision level to ensure consistency of program and documents;
- Selects, positions and secures tools in tool holders in sequence specified on process sheet, verifying positions with gauges and other measuring instruments;
- Installs collets, bushings, stock pushers, etc., in stock-feeding mechanisms;
- Notifies LP/Floor Manager at 50% of set-up time if job is expected to exceed goal;
- Mounts fixture for work piece to facilitate machining, mounts work piece, manually or using hoist;
- Sets-up machine and observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on set-up sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts;
- Notifies Floor Manager of suggested improvements for subsequent runs but follows existing documented process for current run; ;
- Runs first piece and inspects for conformance to specifications, using micrometers, other precision gauges;
- Obtains Quality Inspector approval for first-run piece;
- Run the job or advances to Lathe Operator;
Less Essential Duties / Functions
- Maintains necessary supplies for area, notifies LP/Floor Manager when re-orders are necessary;
- Replaces worn tools, as necessary;
- Communicates with LP/Floor Manager to receive instructions and coordinate activities;
- Provides assistance to Operators, as needed, to ensure proper milling operation;
- Reviews and organizes set-up folder;
- Maintains clean and organized work area.
Job Qualifications and Skills
- Understands all aspects of the CNC lathe manufacturing process;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in team environment;
- Able to work with minimal direction;
- Understands and follows all policies that apply to one's job and maintains a high level of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
