Health Research, Inc. (HRI) at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician to support cutting-edge research in the Department of Urology. Working closely with Dr. Eric Kauffman and Dr. Blake Wilde, this role will contribute to innovative studies focused on kidney cancer biology, tumor metabolism, and identifying new therapeutic approaches for patients.
This is a unique opportunity to work across two collaborative research laboratories, helping advance projects from the laboratory bench toward meaningful clinical impact. Your work will play an important role in generating high-quality data that supports discoveries, publications, and future cancer treatments.
The starting annual salary for this position is $50,067 and this can include a comprehensive benefits package.
What You'll Do:
As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will:
Support laboratory research focused on kidney cancer and related disease mechanisms
Perform and maintain a variety of experimental techniques and laboratory procedures
Collaborate with investigators, scientists, trainees, and research staff across multiple projects
Collect, organize, and analyze research data
Maintain accurate laboratory, experimental, and regulatory records
Assist with study coordination and day-to-day laboratory operations
Help ensure research activities are conducted safely and according to established protocols
Contribute data and findings that support scientific publications, abstracts, and grant applications
Participate in a team-oriented environment focused on innovation and discovery
What You'll Bring:
We're looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, detail-oriented, and excited to contribute to meaningful cancer research.
Successful candidates may have experience in two or more of the following areas:
Cell culture
Molecular cloning
Western blotting
CRISPR/Cas9 technologies
Metabolomics or LC-MS sample preparation
Recombinant protein production and purification
Enzymatic assays
RT-qPCR
Mouse breeding, handling, and animal procedures
Microscopy
Immunofluorescence or immunohistochemistry
Flow cytometry
Bioinformatics
You'll stand out if you also have:
Experience working in a collaborative research environment
Ability to coordinate work across multiple investigators or research teams
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience maintaining accurate research documentation and records
Experience contributing to scientific abstracts, manuscripts, or grant submissions
Peer-reviewed publications (preferred but not required)

Required Education and Experience
1. Master's degree in a science-related field; or
2. Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks; or
3. Associate’s degree in a science-related field and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks; or
4. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time laboratory experience, including six (6) months experience training or leading subordinate staff or students in the performance of assigned laboratory tasks.
NOTE:
Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
- Experience working in a collaborative research environment and coordinating projects across multiple investigators or teams.
- Demonstrated experience in two or more of the following techniques: cell culture, molecular cloning, western blotting, CRISPR/Cas9 approaches, metabolomics or LC-MS sample preparation, recombinant protein production and purification, enzymatic assays, RT-qPCR, mouse breeding, mouse handling and animal procedures, microscopy, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, or bioinformatics.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate experimental and regulatory records.
- Experience contributing data for scientific abstracts, publications, or grant applications.
- Published peer-reviewed research is desirable but not required.
