Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc. (RSS), a not-for-profit mental health agency, is hiring a full time Benefits Coordinator. This position is responsible for assisting program participants with applying for and maintaining eligibility for public benefits and entitlement programs. This position provides direct support to clients in navigating complex benefit systems, including Medicaid, Social Security, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance, and other public assistance programs. The Benefits Coordinator also manages ongoing recertifications, monitors benefit status, and ensures accurate reporting of client fees for residential programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Benefits Eligibility and Application Assistance
- Assist clients with applying for public benefits, including Medicaid, Social Security benefits (SSI/SSDI), SNAP, Temporary Assistance, and other available entitlement programs.
- Gather, review, and submit required documentation to support benefit applications.
- Educate clients, family members, and staff regarding eligibility requirements, application processes, and available resources.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with government agencies and service providers to resolve benefit-related issues.
- Monitor application status and follow up with agencies to ensure timely processing.
Recertification and Benefits Maintenance
- Track benefit renewal and recertification deadlines for all assigned clients.
- Coordinate and complete Medicaid, SNAP, Social Security, and other required recertifications to prevent interruptions in coverage or benefits.
- Maintain accurate records of benefit status, approvals, denials, and renewals.
Financial Reporting and Client Fee Management
- Calculate and maintain client fee obligations for residential program participants.
- Prepare and submit monthly client fee reports for residential programs operating in two counties.
- Reconcile client financial information and maintain accurate records for audits and reporting purposes.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain confidential and accurate client records in accordance with agency policies and HIPAA regulations.
- Enter and update client information in electronic health record and case management systems.
- Prepare reports and documentation required by funding sources, regulatory agencies, and program leadership.
- Stay informed of changes in public benefit programs, eligibility requirements, and regulations.
- Assist with special projects and other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of two years of experience working with public benefits, entitlement programs, case management, or related human services functions.
- Knowledge of Medicaid, Social Security (SSI/SSDI), SNAP, public assistance programs, and eligibility processes.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain detailed records.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Other Requirements
Active/valid driver's license
Successful completion of the Justice Center and New York State Office of Children and Families Statewide Central Register Database clearance.
