Responsibilities
Ophthalmic Technician Responsibilities:
- Test and measure patient eye function
- Assist Ophthalmologist with tests and treatment
- Assess complete spectrum of ocular problems: cataracts, glaucoma, retina, neurology, trauma, etc.
- Measure visual acuities
- Take patient history (ocular, medical, family)
- Pupil assessment
- Keratometry measurements
- Refracting
- Color and vision testing
- Schirmer testing
- Lensometry
- Motilities
- Stereo testing
- Amsler Grid testing
- Angle assessment
- Eye Drop Administration
- Stock back offices and clean
- Clean and sterilize instruments
- Prescription refills
- Triage referring doctor questions and needs
- Prepping medical charts
Qualifications
The Ophthalmic Technician Qualifications:
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Be reliable, trustworthy and consistent
- Be a well-organized, team-player with great attention to detail
- Highly energetic with positive attitude
- Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours
- Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting
