Regional Manager – Correctional Healthcare
Location: Regional Travel Across Assigned Correctional Facilities
Reports to: Regional Vice President and/or Executive Vice President of Health Services
Supervises: Health Services Administrators (HSAs) and Directors of Nursing (DONs)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Regional Manager with direct correctional healthcare leadership experience to oversee healthcare operations across multiple correctional facilities.
This is a correctional healthcare leadership position. Candidates must have prior leadership experience in a jail, prison, detention center, or other correctional healthcare environment.
The Regional Manager is responsible for operational performance, staffing, regulatory compliance, quality, client relationships, and leadership development across assigned facilities.
What You'll Do
- Lead, coach, and hold HSAs, DONs, and site leaders accountable for operational and clinical performance.
- Conduct regular facility visits to assess staffing, workflows, documentation, compliance, and overall site performance.
- Monitor staffing levels, vacancies, overtime, scheduling, and workforce stability.
- Identify operational and compliance risks and drive timely resolution.
- Support site leaders with employee relations, performance management, conflict resolution, and leadership challenges.
- Review facility performance, including grievances, sick call, chronic care, incidents, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Lead or support investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action plans.
- Ensure assigned facilities remain prepared for NCCHC, ACA, Department of Health, and client audits and inspections.
- Conduct mock surveys and operational reviews to identify and correct compliance gaps.
- Develop and monitor quality improvement initiatives across assigned facilities.
- Build strong relationships with correctional facility leadership and client partners.
- Serve as a regional escalation point for staffing, clinical, operational, and compliance concerns.
- Coach and develop current and emerging correctional healthcare leaders.
- Partner with HR, Recruiting, Payroll, Scheduling, and Training to resolve workforce and operational challenges.
What We're Looking For
- Direct leadership experience in correctional healthcare.
- Experience leading healthcare operations within a jail, prison, detention center, or other correctional facility.
- Experience supervising healthcare leaders and/or managing correctional healthcare operations.
- Strong understanding of NCCHC, ACA, state regulatory requirements, and correctional healthcare standards.
- Proven ability to manage staffing challenges, compliance issues, investigations, corrective action plans, and operational performance.
- Strong judgment, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly across assigned facilities.
Preferred Experience
- Multi-site correctional healthcare leadership.
- Experience supervising HSAs, DONs, or similar correctional healthcare leaders.
- Experience with NCCHC, ACA, Department of Health, or client audits.
- Experience working directly with county, state, or other correctional facility leadership.
- Experience with quality improvement and regulatory remediation.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on correctional healthcare leader who can walk into a struggling facility, identify what is driving the problem, and create accountability for fixing it.
You know how to lead through staffing shortages, compliance issues, difficult employee situations, audits, client concerns, and competing operational priorities. You can develop strong site leaders while holding them accountable for results.
This is not a traditional hospital, nursing home, ambulatory, or community healthcare operations position. Direct correctional healthcare leadership experience is required.
