Intermediate Interior Designer
Brockschmidt & Coleman is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Interior Designer to join our team. We are looking for a thoughtful designer with exceptional design judgment, strong technical skills, and a passion for architecture, decoration, and the decorative arts.
Our work focuses on creating timeless, highly personal interiors that respect the architecture and history of each project while supporting contemporary ways of living. We collaborate closely with clients, architects, artisans, and craftspeople on projects ranging from historic renovations and city apartments to country houses and estates throughout the United States.
The ideal candidate will have the confidence to manage multiple aspects of a project independently while enjoying the collaborative environment of a small design office. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with the firm's principals and to participate in every phase of the design process, from concept development through installation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and present interior design concepts in collaboration with the principals.
- Prepare furniture plans, elevations, architectural details, and presentation drawings.
- Research and specify furnishings, fabrics, lighting, finishes, decorative materials, and custom pieces.
- Produce detailed specifications, schedules, and procurement documentation.
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, consultants, workrooms, and vendors throughout the design and construction process.
- Manage project organization, budgets, schedules, and sample libraries.
- Attend client meetings, site visits, installations, and vendor presentations.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative studio environment.
Qualifications
- Degree in Interior Design or Architecture.
- 4–8 years of professional experience, preferably in high-end residential design.
- Excellent proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite; SketchUp and AI-assisted rendering platforms are a plus.
- Strong graphic presentation and drafting skills.
- Thorough understanding of construction documentation, custom furnishings, materials, and fabrication.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest in classical architecture, historic interiors, furniture, textiles, gardens, and the decorative arts.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
