Job Summary:
The Mohs Medical Assistant will help perform dermatologic procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance under the supervision of their Provider and Clinical Supervisor. This position will be responsible for excellent patient care, maintain and demonstrate the skills and techniques of patient care, and have an understanding and knowledge of surgical dermatology procedures. This position should strive to create and maintain a relationship with each patient in their care. While also maintaining cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Escorts patients to examining rooms, takes detailed medical histories, and determines the reason for the visit and checks the patient's vital signs.
- Presents patient history summary and alerts Provider to changes in the patient’s skin, elevated blood pressure. As well as obtaining any and all surgical history, their list of medications, and any medication allergies etc. Annotates patient charts with exam and treatment results.
- Reviewing consent forms; assisting the physician in completing examinations and procedures; preparing surgical trays for procedures; ensuring all medications are drawn up as needed; providing wound care and suture removal instructions to patients.
- Prepares and opens all sterile supplies and sets up trays, rooms, and instruments for each procedure according to Absolute Dermatology’s standards
- Assure all paperwork is ready for the next day’s cases, flowsheet, path report, petri dish
- Assists the Mohs surgeon during procedures by assisting with procedure, anticipating the needs of the surgeon.
- Experience performing biopsies, Excisions, and curettage.
- Dresses wounds for patients, and provides post op wound care information.
- Documents and takes photographs, labels, and organizes the different Mohs stages.
- Handles specimens for pathology.
- Assists in maintaining the, prep, instrument processing, and cleanup, of the exam rooms
- Prep patients for their procedure.
- Helps to assist and educate patients on their treatment plans, the expectations, and any and all post-op instructions.
- Demonstrates excellent skills of or experience in using various medical equipment such as ultrasonic cleaner and autoclaves.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the processes to maintain an autoclave.
- Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training.
- Must comply with OSHA standards regarding PPE (gowns, gloves, safety goggles) when performing surgical procedures and other general patient care.
- Observes clinic policies, procedures, and safety practices.

Travel
- After training is completed, Assistants may need to travel to another clinic to assist when needed.
Education and Experience:
- CCMA cerrfication preferred
- Surgical Assisting 1+ years experience required
- Mohs Surgical Assisting experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
