Lead 01 Journeyman Electrician – Hands-On Field & Project Leadership
We are a growing electrical contractor looking for an experienced Washington State 01 Journeyman Electrician to join our team in a lead role.
We are a small business, so this is not a desk-only project management position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in the field alongside the crew while also providing higher-level leadership, plan reading, estimating, coordination, and communication.
The right candidate should be a strong electrician first, with the ability to look at the overall project, identify issues before they become problems, communicate professionally with customers and general contractors, and help our field team complete projects efficiently and profitably.
Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on electrical work in the field as needed
- Read and understand electrical drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documents
- Review project scope and identify potential conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues
- Perform material and labor takeoffs and assist with estimating
- Plan manpower, materials, equipment, and project sequencing
- Lead and support journeymen and apprentices in the field
- Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, owners, inspectors, and other trades
- Prepare and respond to professional emails, RFIs, and project-related correspondence
- Identify scope changes and help document change-order work
- Track field productivity, labor hours, and project progress
- Help ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget
- Maintain high standards for workmanship, safety, and code compliance
- Mentor less-experienced electricians and apprentices
- Troubleshoot electrical and jobsite problems and recommend practical solutions
- Participate in prevailing-wage and public works projects as needed
Qualifications
- Valid Washington State 01 Journeyman Electrician Certificate required
- Strong hands-on commercial electrical experience
- Strong ability to read electrical plans and specifications
- Experience leading crews and coordinating electrical projects
- Understanding of labor and material estimating
- Good knowledge of NEC and Washington electrical requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable communicating by email with general contractors, customers, inspectors, and project team members
- Able to organize work, prioritize tasks, and solve problems independently
- Able to balance field production with project leadership responsibilities
- Reliable, professional, and accountable
- Basic computer skills and willingness to use email, PDF drawings, project-management software, and other digital tools
Preferred Experience
Experience in some or all of the following is a plus:
- Commercial electrical construction
- Tenant improvements
- Ground-up construction
- Public works and prevailing-wage projects
- Electrical estimating and takeoffs
- Change-order pricing
- Service and troubleshooting
- Crew leadership or foreman experience
- Working directly with general contractors and project managers
What We Are Looking For
We are especially interested in someone who can see both the field details and the big picture.
You should be comfortable putting on your tools and working with the crew, but also be able to sit down with a set of drawings, understand the complete scope, estimate labor and materials, plan the work, write a professional email, and communicate clearly with the GC or customer.
This position is a good fit for an experienced 01 electrician who wants to remain hands-on while taking more responsibility for project execution and team leadership.
