Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) / Medical Technologist (MT)
Job Summary
Penobscot Valley Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) to join our team for a 13-week assignment. This role requires a dependable generalist who can work independently, multitask, and perform a wide range of laboratory tests in a critical access hospital environment.
Schedule
- 13-week contract
- 3×12-hour shifts (after first week of training)
- Rotating weekends (every 5th weekend)
- No call
- May cover a Thursday night shift
- Holiday rotation as needed
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and complex testing in:
- Microbiology (gram stains, planting cultures, blood cultures)
- Hematology & Chemistry
- Urinalysis & Coagulation
- Blood Bank (type & screen, crossmatch, antibody screens)
- Perform proficient phlebotomy / venipuncture
- Process and analyze specimens accurately
- Follow PPE, isolation, and infection-control protocols
- Operate laboratory instruments and maintain quality control
- Work independently and prioritize workload efficiently
- Communicate clearly with providers, nursing, and lab team
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited MLT or MT program
- National certification (ASCP/AMT) preferred
- Strong skills in Microbiology, Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Blood Bank
- Must be proficient in phlebotomy
- Ability to work independently in a critical access hospital
- Strong multitasking and communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Rural or critical access hospital experience
- Generalist background across all lab departments
- Microbiology experience strongly preferred
