From its modest beginning over 30 years ago, the North Coast Repertory Theatre, a non-profit organization, has evolved into one of the area’s leading performing arts organizations, recognized for the quality of its work and its commitment to excellence. Located in Solana Beach, in the heart of San Diego’s Coastal North County, the theatre boasts an award-winning Mainstage season, with performances year-round to over 40,000 people in its intimate 194-seat setting. In addition, the theatre involves thousands of young people each year in the Theatre School @ North Coast Rep’s education and outreach programs.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Scenic Supervisor leads in the creation, building, transportation and finishing of sets for MainStage productions and oversees shop maintenance.
General Responsibilities:
- Participate in all builds, strike, and load-ins for each production and special event
- Construct, paint, maintain, and transport scenery. Coordinate transportation of related items for other departments, such as props and scenic art
- Ability to read and build from technical drawings; ability to read and interpret design drawings
- Maintain construction standards, including accuracy, from working drawings to finished product
- Implement safe processes and safety-related procedures for the scene shop
- Maintain all tools and equipment used for scenic building and maintenance
- Use of manual and power tools to install and maintain all staging and scenery
- Use internal computer systems to receive and complete tasks and communicate with coworkers
- General construction and theatrical/event construction projects
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
- Professional experience in theatrical scene shops or comparable experience in a related field
- Knowledge of traditional scenic construction and set finishing techniques; framing through finish carpentry; painting and finishing; and sewing and stretching of soft goods
- Demonstrated people management and supervisory experience
- Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking about theatrical challenges
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening skills
- Working knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety equipment, products, and practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
- Working knowledge of Google Suite, Vectorworks, and other theatre-related software
- Must have a sense of balance with ability to work on ladders
- Must be able to lift 75+ pounds
- Class C driver’s license and clean driving record (required)
- Experience with welding and metal work is a plus
- Experience designing and building props is a plus
COMPENSATION
This salary position will be paid $70,500 per year, plus benefits, including paid vacation, employer sponsored health insurance, employee-paid dental and vision insurance, and participation in 403b plans.
