Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and school policies, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, including mechanical checks and safety equipment readiness.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols such as CPR.
- Manage behavior effectively through positive communication skills and behavior management techniques to ensure a respectful environment onboard.
- Assist students with boarding and disembarking.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, student attendance, and incident reports; communicate clearly with school staff and parents as needed.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations with defensive driving techniques and quick decision-making skills.
Experience
- Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving, preferably with school bus or paratransit vehicles.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and defensive driving practices.
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings is highly desirable.
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance checks.
- Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to manage behavior effectively are essential for success in this role.
- Prior training or certification in first aid, CPR, or related safety courses will be considered an advantage.
