Position Summary
Volare Aviation is seeking a highly motivated and mechanically skilled Aircraft Maintenance Technician / Mechanic Assistant to support maintenance operations for our growing fleet of 13 training aircraft.
Our fleet includes:
- Piper PA-23-160 or PA-23-150 Apaches
- Cessna 172s
- Cessna 150s
This is a hands-on, hangar-based position within a growing Part 61 flight school. An FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate is not required for this position.
We are looking for candidates with strong mechanical experience who are comfortable working in a technical, hands-on environment. Experience working directly with general aviation aircraft is strongly preferred. Candidates with backgrounds in aircraft maintenance, piston engines, powerplants, sheet metal, fabrication, or other relevant mechanical fields are encouraged to apply.
You will work alongside our certificated maintenance personnel to help keep a high-utilization training fleet safe, maintained, and operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist certificated maintenance personnel with routine aircraft maintenance, inspections, and repairs
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical discrepancies
- Perform maintenance tasks within the scope permitted under applicable FAA regulations and appropriate supervision
- Work with piston engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, airframe components, brakes, and landing gear
- Assist with powerplant and engine troubleshooting
- Perform sheet metal work, light fabrication, and component repairs as qualified
- Use maintenance manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Assist with aircraft disassembly, reassembly, servicing, and general maintenance
- Use standard aviation maintenance tools and precision measuring instruments
- Assist with maintenance planning, parts organization, and shop coordination
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized hangar environment
- Contribute to efficient maintenance processes and shop standards within a small, fast-paced team
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on technical experience
- Previous experience working with general aviation aircraft strongly preferred
- Experience with piston engines, powerplants, or mechanical systems
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment
- Ability to follow technical manuals, instructions, and established maintenance procedures
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Dependable, organized, and able to work effectively as part of a maintenance team
- Valid driver’s license
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical maintenance duties
Preferred Experience
- Previous general aviation aircraft maintenance experience
- Experience with Piper and/or Cessna aircraft
- Experience in a flight school or high-utilization GA environment
- Piston engine and powerplant troubleshooting
- Sheet metal work and light fabrication
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
- Aircraft restoration, repair, or maintenance experience
- Familiarity with aviation maintenance tools and technical documentation
An FAA A&P Certificate is not required. Candidates who are currently working toward A&P certification or who have significant hands-on aviation maintenance experience without an A&P are encouraged to apply.
