Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Operating Room

Job Summary
Facility is seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join the Operating Room team. The Surgical Technologist will provide essential perioperative support by preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field, and assisting the surgical team during major operating room procedures.
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of hands-on scrub experience with major OR procedures, strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and sterile technique, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and arrange the operating room for scheduled surgical procedures.
- Set up sterile instruments, supplies, equipment, and surgical trays according to procedure requirements.
- Maintain strict sterile technique and aseptic practices throughout surgical procedures.
- Perform scrub duties and anticipate the needs of surgeons and other members of the surgical team.
- Pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and other supplies efficiently and safely during procedures.
- Assist with surgical counts, including instruments, needles, sponges, and other materials before, during, and after procedures.
- Verify availability and proper functioning of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Assist with positioning and preparing patients for surgery while maintaining patient safety and privacy.
- Follow established infection-control, surgical safety, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Handle surgical specimens appropriately according to facility protocols.
- Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent surgical cases.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the operating room and sterile field.
- Identify and communicate potential breaks in sterile technique or other safety concerns.
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other members of the perioperative team.
- Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment used during major OR cases.
- Maintain professional communication and composure in high-pressure surgical situations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of scrub experience with major OR procedures.
- Completion of an appropriate Surgical Technology training program, including qualifying military surgical technology training.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile technique, infection prevention, and operating-room procedures.
- Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and work efficiently in a fast-paced OR environment.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Required Certifications
- NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification – REQUIRED.
- No other surgical technologist certification will be accepted.
- Primary Source Verification required.
- AHA BLS certification – REQUIRED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a high-volume hospital operating room.
- Broad experience scrubbing major surgical procedures.
- Strong familiarity with surgical instrumentation and specialty trays.
- Experience working collaboratively with surgeons, RNs, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary perioperative teams.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a NBSTSA-certified CST with 2+ years of major OR scrub experience who is confident maintaining sterile technique, preparing surgical instrumentation, anticipating surgeon needs, and supporting complex surgical procedures. AHA BLS and primary-source-verified NBSTSA CST certification are mandatory.
Pay: $60.00 - $70.00 per hour
