At Support The Enlisted Project (STEP), we're redefining what financial wellness looks like. Rather than simply providing short-term assistance, STEP empowers military and Veteran families to overcome financial stress, strengthen their confidence, and create sustainable financial futures through individualized counseling, coaching, and behavioral change.
We're looking for a dedicated Social Worker to join our Financial Wellness Counseling (FWC) team and become a trusted partner for families navigating financial hardship and life transitions.

Responsibilities include:
- Build trusting, supportive relationships with military and Veteran families experiencing financial hardship.
- Restore hope from financial crisis
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of financial strengths and needs.
- Utilize Solution-Focused and Strengths-Based approaches to help clients identify goals, recognize existing strengths, and develop goals for the future.
- Partner with clients to create personalized financial wellness plans.
- Assist clients in reducing financial stress by addressing barriers to housing stability, food security, debt management, and other basic needs.
- Build resiliency through crisis response plans intervention and safety planning when appropriate, including suicide risk assessment and referral.
- Maintain accurate documentation while contributing to measurable client outcomes and program success.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about serving military members, Veterans, and their families.
- Skilled in building rapport and motivating meaningful behavior change.
- Experienced in or willing to quickly learn Solution-Focused, Strengths-Based, Crisis Intervention, Client-centered approaches.
- Comfortable discussing budgeting, financial stress, and financial wellness with empathy and confidence.
- Organized, collaborative, and committed to high-quality client care.
- Able to navigate complex situations while maintaining compassion and professionalism.
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work (BSW/MSW).
- Knowledge of community resources and systems navigation.
- Military spouse or Veterans preferred
- Financial counseling or financial capability experience is a plus.
