We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Bookkeeping Supervisor to lead a growing bookkeeping team in a purpose-driven environment. This is a hands-on leadership role for an accounting professional who enjoys coaching staff, improving financial processes, and ensuring accurate, compliant day-to-day operations that support meaningful community work.
In this role, you will help ensure accurate financial management, strong compliance practices, and efficient bookkeeping workflows. You will guide and support a team of Bookkeepers, partner closely with Finance leadership, and contribute to systems that help the agency serve clients responsibly and effectively.
What you’ll do
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of Bookkeepers to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations.
- Support onboarding, training, coaching, workload planning, and performance management to help team members succeed.
- Oversee daily and monthly reconciliations to ensure transactions, income, disbursements, and vendor payments are accurate and properly maintained in internal systems.
- Review and approve invoices, payment requests, bank reconciliations, vendor records, check runs, automated payments, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor outstanding checks, reimbursements, account balances, and financial reports to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and maintain operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal departments, financial institutions, vendors, and leadership to address financial matters and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Assist with annual 1099 preparation, tax-related reporting support, audits, and other financial documentation requests as needed.
- Ensure bookkeeping activities comply with internal policies, financial regulations, and applicable reporting requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, strengthen financial controls, and create more efficient, reliable department processes.
- Support a collaborative, service-oriented work environment while helping ensure departmental goals and deadlines are consistently met.
What we’re looking for:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience required.
Skills and Strengths:
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping practices, reconciliations, financial reporting, and accounts payable processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Experience working with accounting or financial management software systems.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication, supervisory, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
Position Requirements
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of pre-employment screening, which may include criminal background verification, driving record review, drug testing, and credit check in accordance with applicable guidelines.
