JOB TITLE: Convenience Store Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Convenience Stores located throughout the tri-state area
REPORTS TO: District Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY: To direct the operation of the convenience store within the existing character of the business and within the guidelines of AC&T policies and procedures. To coordinate and supervise the efforts of all store employees assigned to the store in order to promote it’s efficient, safe and profitable operation.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May recruit, interview, screen and recommend hiring, suspending, demoting, promoting and terminating store employees.

Conduct initial training, continuous retraining or training g in new skills, policies or procedures.

Evaluate employee performance, issue verbal or written reprimands and warnings, recommend raises and promotions.

Enforce all AC&T policies and procedures.

Schedule and conduct periodic store employee meetings.

Spot check employee performance at times when a manager is not on duty by surprise shift reviews and by maintaining phone contact with the store.

Ensure that the store is adequately but not excessively stocked with merchandise at all times.

Evaluate all factors affecting inventory needs, including: seasonal needs, holidays, special events, supplier promotions, upcoming sales, customer requests and being aware of local competition and taking appropriate action if needed.

Effectively and creatively display merchandise so as to maximize sales and ensure that displays and signs are consistent with merchandising goals and programs.

Ensure that prices and codes on all merchandise are correct and determine when to mark down or write off old, damaged or unusable merchandise.

Monitor vendor activities to ensure proper check-in procedures, delivery amounts, proper wholesale charges, proper crediting of account and satisfactory vendor service such as promptness, quality of merchandise and proper rotation.

Resolve any vendors problems with management.

Establish or participate in establishing store objectives and a program of customer relations including training employees to greet, thank and converse with customers.

Prepare and evaluate store operating reports, banking documents, reports prepared by store employees.

Analyze all reports and documents to spot sales trends, unusual shift activity, store problems etc., and take corrective action.

Maintain store hours per company guidelines.

Ensure that each shift is properly staffed at all times.

Control and minimize store expense to include supplies purchased for operation.

Attend manager meetings and unemployment hearings as requested.
-
Recommend ways to increase sales, profits, efficiency etc. and develop promotional activities.

Report problems affecting the repair or maintenance of equipment and property and follow up to see they are completed in a timely manner.

Ensure that the companies preventative maintenance plan is carried out.

Maintain a CLEAN, well merchandised store, and ensure that both inside and outside premises are safe at all times for customers and employees.

Establish and monitor sound cash handling, check cashing, and credit card procedures consistent with AC&T policy

Immediately investigate and resolve cash or inventory overages , shortages or other discrepancies and investigate unusual sales fluctuations or drops, and take or recommend corrective action.

Ensure timely bank deposits.

Ensure the safety and security of store assets, premises and equipment at all times
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-
Be at least eighteen years of age or have a work permit.
-
Be able to speak, read, understand and write the English language.
-
Be able to perform mathematical calculations in order to be able to make change, complete shift reports and account for numbers of a variety of products during vendor check-in.
-
Have sufficient visual sharpness to check identification of customer when necessary.
-
Be able to read and understand instructions for operating electronic cash registers and other equipment.
-
Be able to lift up to 50 pounds, carrying cases of milk cartons, soft drinks, beer and juice containers, etc., at least once per shift.

Be able to stock shelves and coolers.
-
Be able to serve food out of a food case that is kept at a minimum of 140 degrees F.
-
Be able to react to a fire by lifting a fire extinguisher weighing 20 pounds and moving it to the fire area.
-
Be able to bend in order to pull up a metal plate weighing 20 pounds from the underground storage tank.
-
Be able to tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning products.
-
Be able to climb a ladder to clean windows.
-
Be able to sweep and mop floors, dusts shelves and lift and carry out trash containers and place in an outside bin.

Be able to clean the parking lot and grounds surrounding the convenience store.
-
Be able to clean bathrooms, to include floors, sinks and toilets.
-
Be able to enter and work in a cooler at a temperature of 38 degrees up to 15 minutes at a time.
-
Be able to communicate by telephone and/or store intercom.
-
Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and extended hours when and if necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to stand for an extened period of time.

Must be able to work in a refrigerated area for up to 15 minutes and be able to work outside in all types of weather for a short period of time.
