Responsibilities
- Provide peer support through active listening, mentorship, and sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivation.
- Assist clients in developing individualized recovery plans, utilizing motivational interviewing techniques and harm reduction strategies.
- Facilitate group activities, wellness workshops, and peer-led education sessions that promote behavioral health and social connection.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to coordinate care, document progress in electronic health record (EHR) systems, and ensure confidentiality of client information.
- Support clients during crisis situations by applying crisis management skills and crisis intervention techniques to de-escalate distress.
- Advocate for clients’ needs by working with culturally diverse communities and promoting peer support advocacy initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress notes, and service delivery in compliance with confidentiality standards.
Requirements
- Certified as a Peer Support Specialist with recognized credentials demonstrating training in recovery peer support.
- Lived experience with mental health conditions or substance use disorders that informs empathetic engagement and recovery advocacy.
- Knowledge of behavioral health principles, addiction counseling, mental health counseling, and social work practices.
- Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders and familiarity with crisis intervention methods.
- Strong communication skills for client engagement, mentoring, and client education across diverse populations.
- Ability to manage crisis situations effectively while maintaining composure and professionalism.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in all interactions.
