At the Talbot County Health Department, we believe equitable healthcare is a fundamental right. Our public health clinic provides low-cost, high-quality, non-judgmental sexual, reproductive, and preventive health services to community members of all ages—with a dedicated focus on adolescent and youth care. We are looking for a skilled, compassionate Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) trained in procedures to join our clinical team part-time.
Position Overview
In this role, you will deliver comprehensive sexual and reproductive healthcare to adults and teenagers (ages [e.g., 12–19]). You will provide confidential STI testing and treatment, routine gynecological care, procedure-based contraceptive management, and youth-focused health education. We emphasize a youth-friendly, trauma-informed, and confidential approach that empowers patients to make informed decisions in a safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Contraceptive Procedures (LARC): Perform routine insertions, removals, and management of Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (including IUDs and subdermal implants like Nexplanon).
- Adolescent & Adult Clinical Care: Provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate sexual and reproductive healthcare to both teenage and adult patients.
- Confidential STI Testing & Treatment: Diagnose and treat sexually transmitted infections in accordance with CDC guidelines and state adolescent consent and confidentiality laws.
- Preventive Care & Screenings: Perform routine pelvic exams, Pap smears, breast/cervical screenings, and age-appropriate physicals.
- Referrals: community referrals for colonoscopies, mammograms, internal program referrals
- Targeted Therapies: Referrals for HIV PrEP/PEP regimens and provide risk-reduction counseling tailored to youth and adults.
- Patient Education & Advocacy: Educate patients on body autonomy, STI prevention, consent, and reproductive options in an accessible, non-stigmatizing manner.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintain precise EHR documentation while adhering strictly to HIPAA and minor confidentiality regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife.
Experience: None.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
Current CPR Certification
Preferred Qualifications :
- Trained and proficient in LARC insertion and removal procedures (IUDs and/or Nexplanon).
- Experience or comfort working with teenagers/adolescents in a clinical or community setting.
- Proficiency in pelvic exams, STI clinical management, and comprehensive birth control counseling.
- Familiarity with state minor consent laws regarding reproductive health services.
- Skills: Exceptional communication skills with young people; ability to build trust, handle sensitive situations with empathy, and practice trauma-informed care.
- Language: Bilingual (English/[Spanish/Other]) is a strong plus.
Pay: $93,138.00 - $146,883.00 per year
