Job Summary
The Float PCC/MA is a highly adaptable team member responsible for supporting both front office (Patient Care Coordinator) and clinical (Medical Assistant) functions across multiple nephrology practice locations. This role ensures continuity of operations by filling staffing gaps, maintaining patient flow, and supporting both administrative and clinical care delivery.
The ideal candidate demonstrates flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to seamlessly transition between front desk and clinical responsibilities while maintaining high standards of patient care, compliance, and professionalism.
Duties
Front Office / PCC Responsibilities
- Provide coverage for check-in, check-out, and referral coordination functions as needed
- Greet patients, verify demographics, insurance, and collect co-pays
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments
- Process incoming and outgoing referrals, including obtaining authorizations and sending required documentation
- Coordinate patient records, faxing, and medical records requests
- Maintain accurate and timely communication with patients and referral sources
- Ensure completion of referral loops and follow-up on outstanding items
Clinical / MA Responsibilities
- Room patients and manage efficient patient flow throughout clinic operations
- Obtain vital signs (including BP compliance), weight, and medication reconciliation
- Document patient history, allergies, and updates in the EMR
- Perform chart prep prior to visits (labs, records, documentation readiness)
- Assist providers during patient visits and prepare exam rooms
- Administer injections and collect lab specimens as applicable
- Handle prescription refills, prior authorizations, and pharmacy communications
- Provide patient education as directed by providers
- Follow up with patients regarding test results and care plans
Operational / Float Responsibilities
- Travel between multiple office locations to provide coverage based on operational needs
- Adapt quickly to varying workflows, providers, and staffing models at each site
- Maintain productivity and workflow efficiency regardless of assignment
- Support both clinical and administrative teams during high-volume or short-staffed periods
- Crosstrain continuously to maintain proficiency in all PCC and MA duties
Compliance & Quality
- Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control policies
- Maintain accurate and timely EMR documentation
- Support quality initiatives (including MIPS-related documentation such as BP, medication reconciliation, etc.)
- Promote patient safety, confidentiality, and satisfaction at all times
Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent clinical training/experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a medical office
- Experience with both front desk (PCC) and clinical MA duties
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel regularly between locations
Preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacology relevant to diverse clinical settings.
- Experience with referrals, authorizations, and multi-provider scheduling
- Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and medical administrative support functions.
- Experience with intake procedures, vital signs collection, ICD coding, and medication administration preferred.

Mileage
IRS mileage reimbursement
Pay: $18.50 - $20.00 per hour
