Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and other commercial trucks across assigned routes, including over-the-road (OTR) journeys.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring cargo integrity and safety.
- Transport various types of freight, including refrigerated goods, hazardous materials (hazmat), dangerous goods, flatbeds, tankers, and specialty loads like automobile transportation.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS systems to follow optimal routes while complying with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) standards.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with DOT regulations.
- Load and secure cargo properly to prevent shifting during transit; handle logistics cargo with precision.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, logs, and reports in accordance with DOT and hazardous materials regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and emergency responders when necessary to coordinate deliveries or address issues on the road.
Skills
- Valid CDL A license with clean driving record; experience driving tractor-trailers preferred.
- Proficiency in operating refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, or other specialized equipment.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols.
- Skilled in GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments during trips.
- Experience with truck loading/unloading procedures including freight handling for various cargo types such as dangerous goods or freight requiring manual handling.
- Ability to drive manual transmission trucks confidently; familiarity with manual handling techniques is essential.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, compliance, and customer service.
- Capable of managing long hours on the road while maintaining alertness and professionalism.
