We are seeking a Mohs Technician to become a part of our team! You will perform routine administrative and clinical assignments to keep the medical facility running smoothly. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping others, strong clinical skills, and the ability to thrive in a busy and energetic setting. You will work closely with experienced providers to deliver comprehensive care to our patients.
Mohs surgery is a micrographic technique used for identifying and treating skin cancer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare frozen section slides for Mohs Micrographic Surgery according to the policies, procedures and guidelines specified in the laboratory manual.
- Maintain the Mohs laboratory: Monitor supplies and reorder, when necessary, Clean and maintain cryostat, Clean and maintain all lab areas.
- Maintain all microtome knives, sending them out for sharpening and reconditioning when necessary.
- Update and maintain all current laboratory manuals as per C.L.I.A. and other governing agencies.
- Follow OSHA and C.L.I.A Regulations
- Record and maintain all patient information and slide storage as per directions in the Mohs Laboratory Manual.
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation according to regulatory guidelines.
- Relied upon reporting to work as scheduled, to carry out instructions and fulfill job responsibilities.
- Accepts accountability for actions and can adjust work shift when workload or conditions warrant it.
- Promote an environment in which the laboratory staff can work together cooperatively toward objectives.
- Observes confidentiality, both with patient information and with coworkers.
- Handles Medical Assistant duties on non- Mohs days: Rooming, charting, patient calls, scheduling appointments, complete biopsy procedures.
Qualifications:
- Must have an associate’s degree or Higher
- Must have a current Mohs Certification
- Previous experience in a dermatopathology or clinical histology lab setting preferred.
- Proficient in tissue processing, microtomy, staining, and laboratory procedures.
- Color discrimination required to verify diagnostic quality of staining processes in order that essential features of the tissue sections can be properly defined.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate the micro-thin tissue sections and to mount onto microscope slides.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Laboratory environment; exposure to biohazards and chemical agents.
- Standing, bending, and lifting required during specimen processing.
- May involve use of sharp instruments and exposure to formalin.
- Full-time, Monday-Friday position
