AmeriCorps Member Position: School Based Youth Mental Health Navigator
Service Term: Member serves September 14, 2026, through July 2, 2027; average of 34 hours per week; minimum 1200 total hours

This is an AmeriCorps near-peer model.
Program: United Pathways Youth Mental Health Corps (YMHC) is an AmeriCorps Program with United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS). The mission of UWNNS is to unite communities to improve lives. UWNNS is committed to improving access to mental health resources. The goal of the program is to provide immediate support to affected youth through social-emotional skill development while building sustainable pathways to bolster the community health and mental health workforce.
Members will guide students through an evidence-informed, relationship-centered, flexible curriculum in one-one-one and group settings. Members will act as resource navigators, connecting students and families to appropriate school and community resources. Members will serve students ages 12-18 in middle and high schools through near-peer mentorship, supporting UWNNS’s focus on workforce development and behavioral health intervention in Northern Nevada.
Primary Duties:
· Lead groups of students in accordance with the provided curriculum, lesson plans, and training.
· Lead and develop age and content-appropriate activities based on youth’s assessed and identified needs.
· Provide a safe and respectful learning experience and space for youth.
· Deliver and score assessments; review, analyze, and set goals for students according to assessment and other data.
· Maintain Member Reflection Journals and supplementals from training.
· Participate in weekly professional development seminars that contribute toward Community Health Worker certifications
· Communicate with school site staff and program staff.
· Attend required training days and orientation sessions.
· Professionally represent and be an ambassador for the United Readers program, AmeriCorps, and UWNNS.
Benefits:
· Members who successfully complete service are eligible for a Segal Education Award in the amount of $5176.50.
· Members are eligible for federal student loan forbearance during service.
· Members receive a living allowance in the total amount of $25,200.
· Members will receive two weeks of training and orientation at the start of service and continued training and professional development throughout the academic school year.
Qualifications:
· Members must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
· Candidates must be able to perform services during the school day.
· Members should be interested in or have experience with behavioral health, education, or a related field, a community and service mindset, and be willing to learn.
· Must have a desire to work with youth and be able to explain lessons and activities clearly and effectively.
· Position requires patience and collaboration with other members and staff as well as through Microsoft and Google suites.
· Experience with youth and youth development is encouraged but not required.
· Reliable transportation is highly recommended.
Successful candidates must agree to conform to the AmeriCorps dress code and complete a National Sex Offender Public Website check and National Service Criminal History Check. Successful applicants agree to confirm eligibility according to the member eligibility requirements (45 CFR 2522.200(a)).
