JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of Development leads Catholic Charities San Bernardino & Riverside Counties' fundraising, donor engagement, marketing, grants, and volunteer engagement strategies. The Vice President is responsible for significantly expanding philanthropic support through individual giving, major gifts, planned giving, institutional funding, strategic partnerships, and community engagement while building the systems, team, and culture necessary for sustained long-term growth. This leader serves as a member of the executive leadership team and works closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to advance the organization's mission and financial sustainability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To successfully fulfill this role, the individual must perform the following duties to a satisfactory standard:
Leadership and Organizational Collaboration
- Serve as a member of the organizational leadership team.
- Participate in strategic planning, organizational growth initiatives, and long-term sustainability planning.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and the Finance, Programs, Development, Marketing and Communications, Community Relations, and Parish Engagement departments.
- Assist in developing organization-wide fundraising and visibility strategies.
- Support long-term donor engagement and revenue diversification planning.
- Participate in Board meetings, committee meetings, and community presentations as needed.
Fundraising Leadership
- Develop, execute, and regularly improve a comprehensive annual development plan with clear revenue goals, strategies, timelines, ownership, and performance measures.
- Make growing individual giving the central priority, including annual giving, recurring gifts, major gifts, planned gifts, donor upgrades, and donor reactivation.
- Personally manage a portfolio of major and planned-gift prospects and lead their identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Build and maintain a disciplined major-gifts pipeline and moves-management process with clear next steps and accountability.
- Develop donor acquisition, retention, stewardship, and upgrade strategies that strengthen donor loyalty and lifetime value.
- Establish fundraising KPIs, dashboards, forecasts, and regular performance reviews to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the donor database, prospect research, gift records, portfolios, acknowledgments, and fundraising reports are accurate, timely, and actionable.
- Establish and grow a planned-giving and legacy-giving program, including prospect education, professional-advisor relationships, policies, stewardship, and documented gift intentions.
- Evaluate fundraising performance and recommend strategic improvements.
Grants & Institutional Funding
- Oversee the Grants Writer and the organization’s institutional funding strategy, including prospecting, proposal development, reporting, compliance, and renewal planning.
- Set clear goals and performance expectations for grant writing and evaluate results, deadlines, quality, and return on investment.
- Collaborate with program leadership to align grant opportunities with program outcomes and organizational priorities.
- Develop long-term internal grant infrastructure.
- Identify and pursue capacity-building funding opportunities.
- Assist in identifying sustainable funding opportunities aligned with organizational growth goals.
Marketing & Communications
- Direct the marketing consultant and align branding, communications, storytelling, and donor messaging with fundraising priorities.
- Increase visibility throughout the Inland Empire region.
- Develop an annual communications calendar that supports donor acquisition, cultivation, stewardship, planned giving, grants, volunteer engagement, and special events.
- Oversee digital marketing, social media, newsletters, donor communications, website updates, and organizational campaigns.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure messaging aligns with organizational mission and priorities.
- Support public relations and media engagement opportunities.
Parish & Community Engagement
- Develop strong relationships with parishes and diocesan stakeholders throughout the Inland Empire.
- Increase parish engagement in organizational programs and initiatives.
- Build community partnerships and donor engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Community Relations and Parish Engagement departments to strengthen regional outreach efforts.
- Serve as a point of contact for donors, community stakeholders, foundations, healthcare partners, and parish leaders.
Volunteer & Community Engagement
- Supervise the volunteer manager and integrate volunteer recruitment, engagement, recognition, and conversion into the broader development strategy.
- Develop volunteer-to-donor engagement pathways.
- Lead the strategy, revenue goals, sponsorships, donor engagement, execution, and post-event evaluation for two annual special events.
- Support regional visibility and partnership development.
Strategic Growth & Organizational Sustainability
- Assist in positioning CCSBRIV for long-term sustainable growth.
- Support strategic growth initiatives related to: donor expansion, healthcare partnerships, housing and homeless initiatives, parish engagement, regional expansion, and technology modernization
- Collaborate with leadership to identify emerging funding opportunities and long-term sustainability strategies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct supervision, coaching, accountability, and performance evaluation for:
- Individual Giving Manager
- Grant Writer
- Marketing Consultant
- Volunteer Manager
- Other development consultants or personnel assigned to the department
- Ensure the team works from coordinated plans, shared priorities, clear goals, and measurable outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- A B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited university in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Philanthropy, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
- CFRE Certification preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible nonprofit fundraising and development experience, including demonstrated success growing individual giving and securing major gifts
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful supervisory or team-leadership experience
- Experience in donor development, major gifts, planned giving, annual campaigns, nonprofit leadership, strategic communications, community engagement, and organizational growth preferred.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to travel throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties as needed.

- Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
