Background:
Unique People Services was formed in 1991. Over the years we have grown and now operate supportive long-term and permanent, transitional and congregate housing for formerly homeless persons with HIV/AIDS and mental illness programs in the Bronx, and Manhattan. In addition to residential housing for Developmentally Intellectual adults in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.

Job Summary:
Responsible for general maintenance and repairs in residents’ apartments, residential homes, as well as Administrative office. Maintaining the interior and exterior in a clean and safe manner.
- Performs minor and general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. For example, repairing drywall, and doors, painting, and other building fixtures. Clean hallways, rooms, offices, and communal areas on a regular basis.
- Collect and bag garbage and place it outside for trash collection day.
- Assist with moving of residents; prepare rooms/apartments for occupancy.
- Perform monthly safety inspections of resident’s rooms/apartments.
- Paint and repair rooms/apartments when vacated, as necessary.
- Maintain all mandated building maintenance/fire safety certifications.
- Complete daily work assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
- Troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Knowledge of general carpentry and repair. Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or management.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Certifications that are relevant to this position.
Experience: One (1) year of related experience working in a residential setting. Candidates with NYS Drivers’ License preferred, not required. Clean driving record or 3 points or less is acceptable and maintained during employment.
