Key Responsibilities
- Patient Navigation: Serve as the primary point of contact for patients scheduling cataract and glaucoma surgeries, explaining the process, timelines, and pre-/post-operative instructions with clarity and care.
- Scheduling & Coordination: Coordinate surgical dates and times between the patient, our physicians, and the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) or hospital.
- Insurance Verification & Authorization: Obtain prior authorizations for surgical procedures and specialized premium lenses (IOLs) or glaucoma implants.
- Documentation: Ensure all pre-operative clearance paperwork, history and physicals (H&Ps), and consent forms are completed accurately and submitted on time.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in medical surgical coordinating (ophthalmology or optometry experience is highly preferred).
- Knowledge: Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology, cataract/glaucoma procedures, and major medical insurance authorization processes.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills, excellent phone etiquette, and proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) software.
- Attributes: A warm, patient, and reassuring demeanor—our patients are often anxious about surgery and appreciate a calming presence.
- Fluent in Spanish
