About the Position
We are seeking an Experienced Asphalt Estimator with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on asphalt estimating experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of asphalt paving, concrete, site work, takeoffs, production requirements, subcontractor pricing, and project costs in Colorado.
This position requires someone who can accurately review plans, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, develop competitive and profitable estimates, and communicate effectively with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and project managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and detailed estimates for commercial and residential asphalt paving projects
- Review plans, specifications, bid documents, and project scopes
- Perform asphalt, concrete, aggregate, grading, and site-work quantity takeoffs
- Calculate asphalt tonnage, square footage, materials, labor, equipment, and production costs
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Develop competitive bids while maintaining appropriate project margins
- Identify project requirements, exclusions, potential risks, and scope changes
- Prepare professional proposals and bid packages
- Communicate with customers, general contractors, property managers, vendors, and subcontractors
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and project walk-throughs when necessary
- Maintain organized estimating records and follow up on submitted proposals
- Work closely with project management and operations to ensure estimates accurately reflect field conditions and production requirements
- Assist with change orders and additional work pricing when needed
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of asphalt estimating experience required
- Strong knowledge of asphalt paving and construction practices
- Experience estimating commercial asphalt projects strongly preferred
- Proficiency with construction plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Strong understanding of asphalt tonnage calculations and material quantities
- Ability to perform accurate construction takeoffs
- Knowledge of labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating software
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

- Asphalt paving
- Asphalt overlays
- Full-depth asphalt replacement
- Mill and overlay projects
- Parking lots
- Roadway paving
- Asphalt patching
- Crack filling and sealcoating
- Concrete flatwork
- Curbs and sidewalks
- ADA ramps
- Site preparation and grading
- Commercial and HOA properties
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for an estimator who knows asphalt—not someone we need to train from the ground up. The successful candidate should be able to take a set of plans or a project scope, determine the quantities and production requirements, price the work accurately, and produce a professional and profitable bid.
Accuracy, attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential.
