Banyan High School- Life Academy is looking for a full-time special education teacher serving adults 18-21. The Transition & Life Skills Teacher is responsible for designing, implementing, and supervising a functional, community-based curriculum for young adults (ages 18–21) with diverse learning and developmental needs. The primary focus of this role is to foster maximum independence, vocational readiness, community integration, and essential daily living skills to prepare students for a successful transition into adulthood.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum Development:
- Design and deliver hands-on, functional lessons in Daily Living Skills (e.g., cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, budgeting, and time management).
- Implement Vocational Training programs, teaching job readiness, workplace etiquette, resume building, and task endurance.
- Facilitate Community-Based Instruction (CBI) to teach real-world navigation, public transit usage, grocery shopping, and safety skills.
IEP Development & Management:
- Write, review, and implement individualized, transition-focused Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Develop measurable, post-secondary transition goals aligned with student interests, strengths, and federal compliance standards.
- Collect, graph, and analyze behavioral and academic data to track progress toward IEP goals.
Classroom & Team Leadership:
- Supervise, train, and direct classroom Paraprofessionals to ensure consistent instructional support and safety data tracking.
- Utilize positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) to manage challenging behaviors and foster a supportive, respectful classroom culture.

Salary: $60,500- $80,000 - negotiable with experience.
Full-Time Position: 10 months, plus optional ESY; Daily hours: 7:45-3:15.
