Overview
Honō Japanese BBQ is now hiring Full-Time (Overtime available) Line Cook / Prep Cooks to join our kitchen team.
We are a fast-paced Japanese BBQ restaurant specializing in all-you-can-eat yakiniku including Wagyu beef, sushi, izakaya-style small plates, hot dishes, salads, rice dishes, and takeout items.
Line Cook / Prep Cooks at Honō are responsible for preparing ingredients before service, setting up stations, cooking hot food items, plating dishes, restocking during service, and helping maintain a clean and organized kitchen. This role is ideal for someone who is reliable, fast, clean, and able to work efficiently in a high-volume restaurant environment.
We are looking for kitchen team members who can handle both prep work and line service while maintaining consistency, cleanliness, and strong communication.
Responsibilities
- Prepare vegetables, sauces, garnishes, rice, salads, and other ingredients according to restaurant standards
- Set up, stock, and organize assigned stations before service
- Cook and plate hot food items such as appetizers, fried items, soups, rice dishes, and takeout items
- Plate salads, accompaniments, small plates, and cold station items as needed
- Follow recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines for consistency
- Restock ingredients and supplies throughout service
- Monitor food quality, portioning, and presentation before items leave the kitchen
- Label, date, store, and rotate ingredients according to food safety standards
- Keep prep areas, line stations, coolers, tools, and equipment clean and organized
- Assist with opening prep, service setup, closing duties, and station breakdown
- Follow food safety, sanitation, storage, and temperature control procedures
- Communicate low-stock items, prep needs, or equipment issues to management
- Work as part of a team to support smooth kitchen operations during busy shifts
Skills & Experience
- Previous line cook, prep cook, or kitchen experience
- High-volume restaurant experience preferred
- Basic knife skills and kitchen prep knowledge
- Ability to cook, prep, plate, and restock efficiently during service
- Strong understanding of station setup, ticket timing, and kitchen communication
- Ability to follow recipes, portion standards, and plating guidelines
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and consistency
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, labeling, and storage procedures
- Ability to multitask and stay calm during busy service
- Must be punctual, reliable, and team-oriented
- Must be able to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs
- Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays
Pay: $15.50 - $18.00 per hour
