JOB TITLE: Dental Clinical Director

POSITION SUMMARY:
Dental Clinical Director in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), leads the dental clinical care delivery of the department, with a goal to combine comprehensive dentistry integrated within primary care centers, including a school-based or mobile oral health program via an integrated electronic health record platform. The Dental Clinical Director will have a demonstrated passion for excellence in full scope clinical dentistry, a general understanding of the business elements of operating a successful and diversified dental program, and the leadership skills to mentor and develop a diverse team of dentists, hygienists, and ancillary staff throughout Family Health Center. The DCD has an opportunity to participate in and influence dental policy and practice through state and national forums.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop his/her own clinical practice within one of FHC sites

Collaborate with the CMO in establishing and reaching targets for clinical capacity and utilization and ensure financial success of the department

Support the oral health/dentistry component of our Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home, with its focus on population health management and integration of all health care services.

Collaborate with the CMO on peer review activities to ensure that standards of care are met and evidence-based treatment is provided.

Provide clinical mentoring and support to staff in complex cases and treatment plans for all dental staff.

Mentor dental leaders in their activities.

Assists the CMO in developing “grand rounds” dental program for the on-going education and training of dental staff.

Participate in limited FHC committees as required for the role.

Collaborate with the CMO and human resources to recruit and retain new FHC dental providers.

Collaborate with the CMO, finance and administrative departments to optimize FHC purchasing power and quality in securing dental equipment and dental laboratory services and supplies.

Represent FHC at limited public facing activities that support the credibility and brand of FHC.

Utilize an electronic health platform to document and manage patient information and communicate with other team members.

The Dental Clinical Director must actively participate in improving clinical outcomes through evidence-based strategies and innovative care approaches. Practice in an interdisciplinary, team-based, collaborative practice environment that harnesses the power of all health care professionals, including primary care, behavioral health, nutrition, pharmacy, and others in caring for our complex patients and communities.

Must be able to guide the organization in development of technology to remain competitive in the healthcare industry.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

DDS or DMD degree from accredited dental school is required

Active State of Michigan Dental license

DEA (Federal and State) Active Licensure
-
Minimum of five years of dentistry experience, practice in community or public health setting a plus

Demonstrated management and leadership expertise

FHC requires as a condition of employment current CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED (CPR/FPR/AED) certification or BLS/AED for Healthcare Providers certification.
