JOB TITLE: PHYSICAL EDUCATION, CHARTER MIDDLE SCHOOL
SUMMARY:
A Middle School PE Teacher instructs students in grades 6–8 on physical fitness, sports, and health, aiming to build physical literacy, motor skills, and wellness habits. They develop inclusive, MLA Priority-aligned curricula that emphasize daily fitness to build lifelong habits, teamwork, team sports,and social-emotional learning. Key responsibilities include developing fun and rigorous activities while managing physical and emotional plans and supervision.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Instruction & Curriculum: Designing and delivering engaging daily lessons focusing on cardiovascular fitness, motor skills, sports rules, and promoting lifelong fitness and healthy lifestyle choices and wellness. Modifying lessons for students with varying abilities, needs, and accommodation requirements. Implementing learning strategies and activities, including determination of type and level of materials while using a variety of instructional materials.
Safety & Environment: Supervising classes and activities, maintaining a safe, clean environment, and keeping a clean and organized PE spaces, including PE closets. Inventory, order, and ensure safety of athletic equipment.
Assessment & Evaluation: Evaluating student skill development, participation, and understanding of physical education concepts using rubrics, observation, and feedback.
Management: Fostering a positive environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion for all ability levels to ensure an environment conducive to the learning process.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and progress using school management systems.
Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
Collaboration & Extra Duties: Collaborating with colleagues for curriculum planning, managing optional physical well-being events and/or intramural clubs, and supporting school-wide extra-curricular activities. Participating in staff meetings, professional learning communities, in-service and professional development activities, as required or assigned, and attending special education meetings or data meetings as requested. Completing assigned supervision duties before or after school.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Jobs may include working with students in either reading or math support as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ABILITIES REQUIRED
Prior related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in a school setting.
Skills to manage personnel and services, communicate effectively, problem solve.
Knowledge, experience and demonstrated action of current best practices in curriculum, instruction, education code and school policies and philosophies.
Abilities to stand and/or move for prolonged periods, maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines, communicate with persons with varied cultural and educational backgrounds, communicate in oral and written form.
Education required: B.A./M.S./M.A./M.E.D in Physical Education
Physical Education License or Charter Registry registered with Teachers Standard Practices Commission.
First Aid, CPR, AED and Bloodborne certification required.
Code of Conduct and Ethics Agreement signatory upon employment.
Excellent organizational, planning and implementation skills.
Time Management:
A minimum 30 minute lunch for every 8 hours worked; to be coordinated with support staff and supervisory personnel.
SALARY, HOURS, APPLICATION AND REPORTING
Salaried/ one (1) FTE: $44,000.00 - $62,620.15 - Per education and years of experience
Hours of operation: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; Friday, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
Exact schedule to be determined at the beginning of the year
Reports to the Principal. (may report to the Executive Director or Superintendent if Principal is not available)
