MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.
JOB SUMMARY: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, preparing items for shipment and storage.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy and completion.

Responsible for resolving issues regarding day-to-day operations.

Responsible for training and development of shipping and receiving clerks.

Identifies improved methods, and efficient and economical utilization of materials.

Ensures proper handling and storage of Govt. Furnished Materials (GFM).

Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.

Reviews loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.

Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.

Ensures accurate inventory of materials.

Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas an oversees inventory process.

Ensures disposal of scrap is handled per policy when a job is complete, and vessel leaves the dock.

Ensures adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.

Establishes accountabilities and goals used for performance evaluation and trains as needed.

Travels to warehouse locations as needed to ensure proper operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience handling GFM highly preferred.

A minimum of 7 years of shipping and receiving experience, supervisory exp preferred but not required.

Attention to detail and ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Must be computer literate and be familiar with the process of using a PC to record inventory, transfers, and shipments.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to manage and motivate employees.
