Molecular Epidemiology, Inc. (MEI) has an opening for a Corporate Counsel with labor and employment law expertise and experience in human resources. This position is based at our corporate headquarters in Lake Forest Park, Washington. This unique role serves as the primary internal resource for a broad range of employment law and human resources matters for a multi-state employer.
The ideal candidate is a practical, business-minded attorney who enjoys partnering with senior leadership, managers, and employees to provide legal guidance on employment, labor and workplace issues; manage compliance and HR operations including leaves, accommodations, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions and terminations; and mitigate legal risks by implementing best practices, policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with a state bar; Washington State Bar membership preferred.
- Three or more years of employment law experience, preferably including both legal and HR responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of labor and employment laws and HR practices; California and Washington experience strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations
- Experience with FMLA, ADA, PWFA, CFRA, workers’ compensation, and multi-state leave and accommodation programs preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to balance legal, business, and employee considerations in decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a hands-on role that combines strategic counsel with day-to-day HR responsibilities.
- In-house legal experience and experience supporting a multi-state workforce are a plus.
The pay range for this position is $90,000 to $150,000 DOE. This is a full-time (salary, exempt) on-site position and is eligible for the following benefits after a brief waiting period: medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability insurance, health and dependent care FSA plans, employee assistance program, 15 days of paid time off per year for sick leave and/or vacation, 6 paid holidays per year, 3 days paid bereavement leave, and 401(k) (with up to 3% employer match after eligibility criteria are met). The office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
