Job Overview
HPS Mechanical is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead and manage underground water, sewer, and storm drain projects throughout the San Diego area. This is a full superintendent-level position responsible for overall jobsite leadership, safety compliance, schedule control, and coordination of crews, subcontractors, and inspectors on prevailing wage site utility projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site leadership for underground utility construction projects from start to finish
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily field operations, crews, and equipment
- Read, interpret, and implement project plans, blueprints, specifications, and layouts
- Develop, manage, and maintain project schedules, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met
- Monitor productivity and manpower to support budget awareness and cost control
- Enforce company, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies, conducting safety meetings and inspections
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and clients to resolve issues efficiently
- Maintain organized project documentation, daily reports, and progress tracking
- Identify and proactively resolve field challenges through strong problem-solving skills
- Ensure all work complies with contract documents, codes, and quality standards
- Lead by example with professionalism, accountability, and clear communication
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in underground utilities construction (Water, Sewer, Storm Drain), including leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of site utilities means and methods
- Proven ability to lead crews, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple activities simultaneously
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions
- Physically capable of jobsite duties, including standing, walking, and occasional lifting
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required
- Willingness to work in an office setting with computers and construction programs

Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience
- Ability to travel
- Acceptable driving record required
- Must pass drug screen, physical, and background check

Wages determined based upon experience. Bonus options based upon job performance and production budgets being met at time of project completion.
