Position Summary
The Fleet Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of FMCSA, DOT, and company safety compliance across our fleet. This individual will lead driver safety initiatives, manage regulatory compliance, oversee driver qualification files, monitor Hours of Service (HOS), investigate accidents, and work closely with operations to improve safety performance and maintain strong CSA scores.
This is a leadership role requiring someone who is organized, proactive, and capable of holding drivers accountable while fostering a positive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all FMCSA and DOT compliance programs.
- Manage Driver Qualification (DQ) files to ensure all documentation remains current and compliant.
- Conduct new driver safety orientation and onboarding.
- Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) compliance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, roadside inspections, and DOT violations.
- Manage CSA/SMS performance and implement corrective action plans.
- Administer Drug & Alcohol Testing and FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements.
- Coordinate random drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Review MVRs, CDL status, medical certificates, and driver eligibility.
- Conduct driver coaching and corrective action following safety events.
- Prepare for DOT audits and maintain regulatory compliance documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety training, investigations, and compliance activities.
- Work closely with Dispatch, Maintenance, Recruiting, and Operations to improve fleet safety.
- Develop and deliver ongoing driver safety training programs.
- Track safety KPIs and provide regular reports to management.
- Ensure company policies remain compliant with all federal and state regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of FMCSA/DOT safety and compliance experience within the trucking industry.
- Strong knowledge of, FMCSA Regulations, DOT Compliance, CSA/SMS, Hours of Service (HOS), Driver Qualification (DQ) Files, Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse & Accident Investigation
- Experience conducting driver safety coaching and corrective action.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced transportation environment.
- Preferred experience with Samsara, McLeod TMS, Tenstreet
Schedule & Work Environment
- Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts.
- Occasional after-hours or weekend availability for emergencies, accidents, or DOT audits.
