Job Title: Base Patrol
Reports To: Patrol Supervisor
Department: Mountain Patrol
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Patrollers will educate guests about safety considerations, monitor guests to ensure general mountain safety, and provide emergency medical care when necessary in the base area, Base Patrol building, and any guest that is brought down off the hill by another On- Hill Patroller that requests the assistance of the Base Patroller. This highly visible role requires a great deal of guest interaction, providing and promoting a safe environment for our guests and employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provide professional, friendly and courteous service to guests and employees, including responding to medical emergencies in the base area, Base Patrol building, Thunderbird area, Camp ground and ensuring general mountain safety.
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of Bike Patrol procedures.
- Maintain Knowledge of Dispatch and logs
- Maintain Knowledge of Base Patrol duties
- Ensure trail readiness is good to go before operational days.
- Know, understand, and adhere to Spider Mountain rules and regulations.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely and professional manner including logs, accident reports and checklists.
- Follow safety procedures at all times. Report any existing or potential safety hazard to supervisor immediately and remedy it when possible according to established protocols.
- Check safety equipment daily for proper function.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner for Dispatch logs.
- All logs done and filed, turned into Director on a weekly basis. This includes collecting paperwork from On- Hill Patrol.
- Inventory of Medical supplies and Patrol tools/ equipment.
- Bio Pick up
- Complete all duties and tasks with the utmost regard for personal and guest safety.
- Continuing education and on-the-job training provided and expected.
- Always stay within the area of Base Patrol to be able to tend to Dispatch and Base Patrol walk-ins.
- Special duties may include chairlift evacuation, out-of-bounds and/or night search and rescue activities.
- Responsibilities may include creation and maintenance of the trail within the bike park in cooperation with the bike park trail crew.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Current CPR for Healthcare Providers and Texas EMT certification required._ National Registry EMT certification preferred._
- Current OEC certification
- Any other Medical Certification HAS TO BE CURRENT and accepted in TEXAS.
- High School Diploma or GED
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Experience:
- Prior experience in EMT position preferred, especially in the outdoor environment.
- Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time in variable weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- 80% of the work day is spent indoors in constantly changing weather conditions at moderate altitude, including but not limited to extreme heat, cold, wet, snow, hail, and wind. 20% of the workday is spent outdoors..
- Occasionally lifting and carrying people and objects weighing in excess of 150 pounds, and occasionally pushing or pulling litters with injured guests weighing up to 300 pounds.. Constant use of near and far acuity and depth perception. Frequently balancing, reaching, handling, engaged in normal conversation, and use of color and field of vision. Occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, feeling.
- Frequent exposure to radiant energy. Occasional exposure to biohazards associated with patient care, mechanical hazards, high exposed worksite, burns, explosives, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, odors, mists, gasses and poor ventilation.
- Material and Equipment Directly Used: lifts, all-terrain vehicles, radio, hand tools, medical care equipment and simple office equipment. Must provide my own downhill mountain bike and helmet.
- Required to work variable shifts, including weekends and school/public holidays.
