The Resident Associate is responsible for supervising clients and maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment within Ascencia's shelter and Access Center facilities. This position provides direct support to residents during day, evening, and overnight shifts and assists with daily shelter operations, client activities, facility cleanliness, and basic maintenance.
The Resident Associate is expected to exercise sound judgment, remain calm during challenging situations, respond appropriately to client needs, and maintain professional boundaries while interacting with clients, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
The Resident Associate reports to the Resident Associate Supervisor and plays an important role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the shelter and ensuring that residents have access to a safe and welcoming environment.
- Supervise clients and shelter activities to promote a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.

Exercise good judgment and remain calm when responding to client needs, conflicts, emergencies, or other unexpected situations.

Participate in and oversee client activities, including meals, personal hygiene, chores, and other shelter activities.

Respond to unexpected or spontaneous client needs during overnight hours, as appropriate.

Monitor the shelter during overnight and bedtime hours.

Ensure the safety and well-being of clients while they are in the facility.

Coordinate laundry and shower lists.

Coordinate the timely departure of clients from the facility in the morning during overnight shifts.

Provide assistance to Dinner Guest Chefs as needed.

Assist Breakfast Guest Chefs as needed during overnight shifts.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Complete daily cleaning of restrooms and shower areas.

Ensure kitchen and dining areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.

Remove trash from shelter areas.

Stock restrooms in the Access Center and shelter.

Perform light-duty repairs and maintenance of the facility, as appropriate.

Report equipment, structural, safety, or facility issues requiring repair or additional attention.

Complete site maintenance and other facility-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Perform other duties necessary to support the cleanliness, safety, and operation of the facility.
- Communicate client, facility, safety, maintenance, and operational concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Complete required documentation and reports accurately and timely.

Follow Ascencia policies and procedures related to client supervision, facility operations, safety, and incident reporting.

Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards when working with clients.
- Work collaboratively with Resident Associates, supervisors, case management staff, and other Ascencia employees to support shelter operations.

Communicate effectively with staff regarding client needs, facility concerns, and shift-related matters.

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other meetings or activities as required.

Support other shelter and program staff with operational needs as assigned.
- Previous experience working in a homeless services or comparable social service program preferred.

Ability to effectively listen to clients and utilize problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

Previous experience in facilities maintenance is preferred.

Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm when responding to challenging or unexpected situations.

Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing homelessness and individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs.

Valid California driver's license and clean driving record required.

Must maintain a valid driver's license and meet agency and insurance carrier requirements for driving approval.

Must be physically able to lift, carry, and move supplies and perform manual labor related to cleaning and basic facility maintenance.

Bilingual English/Spanish skills desirable but not required.

Ability to work day, evening, and/or overnight shifts as assigned.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Must comply with applicable pre-employment screening requirements, including drug screening and TB testing, as required by Ascencia.
Salary: $18.00 per hour

- Travel to field locations may be required to facilitate execution of job responsibilities.

Must maintain a current driver's license and valid auto insurance meeting applicable state requirements when driving for work-related purposes.
