Job Description
The Assistant Barn Manager is an important member of the team to support our mission. This part-time position reports to the Equine Operations Manager and all hours worked are to be performed on site. This role is an important part of supporting our mission by maintaining a high standard of care for our horses, ensuring their comfort and safety remain paramount. Strongwater maintains a herd of 15 horses ranging from miniatures to large drafts so someone who is comfortable handling and caring for all types of horses is key.
Strongwater Farm is hiring a part time position at 10 hours per week for an all day shift on Sundays 7:30am-5:00pm
Essential duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Feeding horses
- Turn in/out
- Muck stalls/paddocks, resetting bedding, salt, etc as needed
- Set up AM/PM grain handling medications, supplements, etc.
- Blanketing, fly gear such as boots, masks, fly sheets, etc.
- Assist in administering medications, mouthwash, etc. via syringe as directed
- Apply basic first aid such as topicals on small wounds, taking vitals, cold water therapy as directed
- Manage and oversee volunteers, assigning tasks, training new volunteers, etc.
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of hands on equine care experience
- Strong working knowledge of equine handling, care, barn management, and safety practices
- Strong knowledge of basic equine health and behavior
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Reliable transportation
- Strong communication skills, organized, and positive attitude
