Classroom Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

ACDS Scarsdale is a specialized school serving young children with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and related diagnoses. Our program provides instruction and behavioral support within structured classroom environments, including 8:1:2 and 12:1:2 classrooms. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Classroom Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to support classroom teams through the implementation of behavior analytic programming while working directly with students in a school-based setting.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Classroom Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct support to students within a special education preschool classroom. This role incorporates the responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant with the implementation of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies, including behavior support and skill acquisition plans.
The Classroom RBT is assigned to a specific classroom and functions as part of both the classroom team and the Behavior Management team. Responsibilities include supporting daily classroom operations, assisting students with classroom routines, and implementing behavioral and instructional programming under the supervision of the BCBA and Lead RBTs.
While in the classroom setting, the Classroom RBT takes day-to-day direction from the classroom teacher, who serves as the frontline supervisor for classroom activities and routines.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are representative of the position and may include additional responsibilities as assigned.
Classroom Support Responsibilities:
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing lesson plans and instructional activities aligned with a special education preschool curriculum
- Support students with classroom routines, including toileting, feeding, transitions, and supervision within a special needs pre-K setting
- Assist with classroom setup, organization, and cleanup
- Escort students throughout the building and assist with arrival, dismissal, and bussing
- Follow direction provided by the classroom teacher to maintain classroom structure and daily operations
- Observe and report student performance and concerns to supervising staff
- Assist in maintaining accurate records related to student progress and classroom activities
RBT Responsibilities:
- Implement behavior support plans and skill acquisition programs as directed by the BCBA
- Collect and record data (e.g., ABC data, interval data) on behavior and skill acquisition targets
- Implement reinforcement systems and support student access to reinforcement
- Assist in the management of challenging behaviors across classroom settings
- Provide updates and relevant information to the BCBA and Lead RBTs as needed
- Support implementation of individualized and small group instructional sessions, including pull-out sessions when applicable
TEAM STRUCTURE
- Embedded within assigned classroom team
- Functions as part of the Behavior Management team
- Reports directly to BCBA and Lead RBTs
- Takes daily operational direction from the classroom teacher while in the classroom setting
- Collaborates with classroom teacher, related service providers, and administrative staff
SCHEDULE
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:15 AM – 3:00 PM
- Wednesday: 8:15 AM – 3:30 PM
- 45-week school year, including Extended School Year (ESY)
- 7 weeks of paid vacation built into the school calendar
QUALIFICATIONS
- Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience working with young children, preferably in a special education or ABA setting
- Ability to implement instructional and behavioral strategies with fidelity
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow direction and adapt to changing classroom needs
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
- Adhere to all ACDS policies and procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the BCBA, Lead RBTs, Principal, or designee
