At Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral we are seeking an enthusiastic Associate Priest who is
dedicated to social justice, community building, and teaching the gospel with sincere warmth and
authentic conviction. In this role, you will have the opportunity to partner with a congregation
passionate about living their faith. You will help to inspire and guide, expanding our expression
of what it is to be an Episcopal Cathedral in our context and time.
Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral seeks an Associate Priest with at least five years of experience
in the Episcopal Church. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively and
productively with the Dean, clergy team, staff, lay leaders, and volunteers.
- Assisting the Dean with management of the day-to-day operations of the Cathedral
- Oversight and organization of social justice ministries.
- Developing newcomer ministry
- Congregational community building including Christian Formation.
- Assisting with ministries, depending on the candidates background, experience, and interest.
- Attendance at weekly staff meetings.
- Participation in congregational and diocesan activities, events, and liturgies as requested by the
Dean.
The Associate will share responsibility for the following:
- Regular preaching and presiding. Sunday morning service is at 10:00 am. Noon Eucharists
take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. Evensong and other services as scheduled.
- Pastoral Care.
- Leading Bible studies and other formation classes.
The successful candidate will have:
- Knowledge of and passion for ministry
- Grounding in Scripture and in the traditions of the Episcopal Church
- Ability to be collaborative and flexible
- Proven track record supporting others as they discover and use their gifts for ministry
- Excellent communication skills, especially in preaching, teaching, writing
- Experience executing strategies for congregational development and growth
- Excellent organizational and management skills
- Strong work ethic and healthy sense of humor
- Demonstrated care for their own spiritual health and growth

This is a time of great opportunity at Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral. We are dedicated to

commitment to radical welcome. We will be expanding our ministry in and partnership with the
city of Philadelphia, reinvigorating diocesan relationships and developing resources for the
diocese, as well as fostering growth in our congregation.
The Cathedral is located at 38th and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia, in a neighborhood known
as University City. Our immediate neighbor is The University of Pennsylvania and its medical
center. Drexel University and St. Joseph’s University for the Health Sciences are a few blocks
away. University City boasts a large number of restaurants, and numerous new apartment
buildings as well as Victorian townhomes and early 20th century housing stock. The universities
give the neighborhood a cosmopolitan feel.
