Pay Rate:
- Candidates with 2–5 years of relevant HVAC experience: $21–$23/hr.
- Candidates with 5+ years of HVAC/Chiller experience and EPA Certification: $22–$30/hr.
- W-2 position.
Summary
- Experience with HVAC equipment and a strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment focused on performance testing and product validation.
- Responsible for test execution and operation of chillers in water-cooled and air-cooled laboratories.
- Ability to set up test environments, perform calibration, and support efficient chiller operation.
- Experience testing and troubleshooting water-cooled and air-cooled commercial chillers.
- Ability to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate chillers at high efficiency during testing.
- Perform basic to moderately complex technical tasks supporting the planning and execution of engineering projects.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain chillers, test setups, and laboratory equipment.
- Work with electrical equipment, including 460V, 3-phase, 60 Hz machinery.
- Perform HVAC operations and refrigerant handling.
- Maintain required EPA certification for refrigerant-related work.
- Select, connect, and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems on Charlotte-manufactured equipment.
- Set up test environments and ensure equipment is properly configured for testing.
- Perform calibration and use appropriate measurement equipment to support accurate test results.
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues during testing and operation.
Minimum Requirements
- Technical/Business School Certificate, High School Diploma/GED, or Skilled Trades Apprenticeship.
- At least 1 year of experience using hand and pneumatic tools.
- At least 1 year of experience working with flow, temperature, and pressure measuring equipment.
- Experience handling precision measuring instruments.
- Basic understanding of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, or refrigeration systems.
- Ability to work safely with industrial equipment and laboratory testing systems.
Preferred Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in chiller/HVAC operations or a related environment.
- 2+ years of shop experience working with mechanical and electrical machinery.
- Experience working with chiller control systems such as Carrier, Trane, York, or Daikin.
- Experience troubleshooting commercial water-cooled and air-cooled chillers.
- Experience with HVAC testing, equipment validation, and performance testing.
- EPA certification for refrigerant handling.
