Sandwich Artisan – Merenda Italian Deli
Merenda Italian Deli brings authentic Italian sandwiches to the Willamette Valley. Inspired by the Italian midday tradition, we serve handcrafted sandwiches made with high-quality meats, house-made sauces, and fresh ingredients. Our menu highlights both classic favorites and innovative creations.
We are currently hiring team members for near full-time hours (30–35 hours/week), with opportunity for more. Ability to work weekends is required.
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
- Base wage: $15.55/hour (Oregon minimum wage) + tips
- Tips currently average $5–$9/hour depending on season, bringing total pay to $21–$25/hour
Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Assembly
- Prepare, slice, and portion meats, cheeses, vegetables, and sauces accurately.
- Assemble sandwiches neatly and consistently, following recipes and customer requests.
- Present each sandwich attractively and ensure it meets quality standards.
Coffee & Beverage Service
- Prepare coffee drinks and other beverages to order.
- Maintain clean equipment and follow recipes and presentation standards.
- Provide friendly, efficient service at the coffee counter.
Customer Service
- Greet customers warmly and provide helpful, professional service.
- Operate the POS system to record orders, process payments, and make change.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Adhere to Oregon Food Safety guidelines to maintain a clean, safe kitchen.
- Store and label ingredients properly to ensure freshness and prevent contamination.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of counters, equipment, and utensils.
Team Collaboration
- Work cooperatively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to keep operations running smoothly.
- Communicate effectively to coordinate orders and ensure accuracy.
- Assist with monitoring inventory levels and restocking as needed.
Requirements:
- Oregon Food Handlers Card (or ability to obtain).
- Previous food preparation or fast-casual restaurant experience preferred.
- Coffee or espresso preparation experience a plus.
- Availability to work weekends is required.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Must be able to stand and walk throughout shifts and lift up to 30 lbs occasionally.
