Job Summary: Practices autonomously and in accordance with professional nursing standards, within the parameters of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, and within the policies and procedures of Anderson Hospital.
Job Responsibilities:

Supports Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical, and religious diversity.

Responds appropriately to infant security, hospital code and patient alarms, including required documentation.

Uses effective communication skills with patients, staff, other departments, physicians, families and visitors.

Provides age appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to newborn, adolescent, adult , and clean gynecological populations.
- Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner, according to hospital policy and procedures.

Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation. Documents readiness to learn, teaching, barriers and outcomes.

Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes.

Engages in activities to expand and /or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice.

Provides leadership and autonomy in the profession and practice settings.

Delegates responsibilities to appropriate health care team members and monitors their activity and work performance.

Facilitates and coordinates discharge planning based on patient needs.

Demonstrates proficiency and competency in the care of the newborn by performing: Serum bilibrubins, transcutaneous bilicheks, photo therapy, glucose screening, antibiotic administration, newborn testing, and assisting with newborn circumcisions.
- Demonstrates flexibility to meet department, organization and patient/family needs.

May be assigned as charge nurse which includes the following duties:

Maintain patient flow through the unit.

Assign and adjust staffing based on patient acuity.

Complete RN Charge check off list in a timely manner.

Act as a liaison with the nursing house supervisor.

Demonstrate conflict management and problem solving skills in dealing with staff, patients, families, physicians and other departments.
Education Requirements and Other Requirements:
Education Level: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Certification/Licensure: Illinois license or eligible. BLS certification required. NRP preferred or must be completed within 12 months of hire.
Experience Requirements: Minimum of 1 year obstetric nursing experience preferred.
