American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ER experience, including pediatric experience, with night shift availability and Cerner EMR proficiency.

Acute care hospital emergency department setting with 36 adult treatment areas and 12 pediatric treatment areas, plus an 8-pod fast track area
-
Patient population spans all acuity levels, from minor walk-in complaints to critically ill patients, including STEMI, CVA, respiratory failure, asthma, abdominal pain, fractures, substance abuse, and psychiatric holds

Facility serves approximately 325 visits per day across both ERs, with approximately 30,000 pediatric visits per year

Patient ratios: ICU 1:2, Adult ER 1:4, Peds ER 1:4, procedural sedation 1:1
-
Charting is performed in Cerner EMR
-
Philips telemetry monitoring is used on the unit; a monitor tech is available
-
Phlebotomy team handles lab draws; respiratory therapy manages vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and ABGs
-
12-hour night shifts; available shift times include 7p–7a, 3p–3a, and 11p–11a
-
No block scheduling — travelers must be flexible with shift assignments
-
4 weekend shifts required per month (can be scheduled as 1 per week or 2 every other week)
-
Travelers are first to float within the ER, including potential float to the Pediatric ER
-
No floating outside of the ER
-
On-call standby may be required for low census; if called in from standby, a 30-minute response time is required
-
13-week contract
-
Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses will not be accepted
-
Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted

Minimum 2 years of ER experience required
-
Experience with both adult and pediatric emergency patients required (approximately 50% of the patient population is pediatric)

Candidates being considered for the Peds ER must have significant pediatric ER experience, not just general pediatric experience

Triage experience required
-
Experience in a high-volume ER environment comparable to approximately 325 visits/day required

BSN not required
-
2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Duo (paired traveler) placements are not accepted

Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

ED RNs manage their own holds, which are intermixed within the main ER
-
Fast track area is staffed by midlevels, LVNs, and RNs (both Peds and Adult)

ER techs and CNAs provide support; in-house security is available
-
EKG interpretation testing is assigned during orientation; critical care RNs (ED/ICU/PICU) will complete additional testing including STEMI and procedural sedation curricula

Travelers are expected to work holidays unless the holiday falls within contracted time off

Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue; hoodies, sweatshirts, and sweat jackets are not permitted
