Overview
K2 is looking for an HR Assistant who takes ownership and gets things done. This role sits at the center of civilian personnel hiring and onboarding operations supporting a DoD mission at JBPHH. You'll be the go-to expert for hiring managers, the engine behind recruitment workflows, and the first face new employees see. If you're precise, proactive, and thrive in a high-stakes environment — this is your seat.
THE MISSION
K2 supports world-class DoD teams — and that starts with getting the right people in the door. As an HR Assistant embedded at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, you'll drive civilian personnel recruitment, onboarding, and HR operations from end to end. This isn't a back-office role. You'll be a subject matter expert and a critical link between hiring managers, HR leadership, and incoming talent. Every action you take moves the mission forward.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Serve as the primary resource for all civilian personnel hiring actions and guide hiring managers through procedures and compliance requirements
- Prepare, initiate, and manage required documentation — job descriptions, personnel action requests, candidate files — across every stage of the hiring process
- Coordinate with internal departments and classification authorities to ensure roles are accurately defined and aligned with organizational standards
- Liaise with partner offices and centralized HR teams to track hiring workflows and resolve process bottlenecks before they become problems
- Organize and support selection panels including scheduling, resume distribution, scoring, and records management
- Provide regular status updates on hiring activity to HR leadership and stakeholders
- Act as the first point of contact for new employees — managing orientation, compliance documents, and organizational integration
- Ensure new hires are set up for success with clear guidance on resources, policies, and key contacts from day one
- Deliver administrative support to the HR team — maintaining records, submitting forms, and assisting with routine audits
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and develop creative solutions to sharpen HR delivery
- Support employee data analysis and generate management reports as needed
- Draft job postings, review application packets for compliance, schedule interviews, maintain applicant files, and prepare offer letters and onboarding packages
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries about HR procedures and timelines with accuracy and urgency
WHAT YOU BRING
- Active SECRET clearance
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications — Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Familiarity with PDF document management tools such as Adobe Acrobat
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to brief individuals and groups
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Close attention to detail and strong follow-through on assigned tasks
- High degree of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive personnel information
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience supporting HR functions in government, defense, higher education, or large enterprise environments
- Professional HR certification such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent
- Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS) or applicant tracking systems (ATS)
- Problem-solving mindset with flexibility to adapt to evolving requirements
- Commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth
